WACO Aerobotics Team at FTC DECODE Kickoff

Our season has officially started!!!!

At 12:00 today the video for this season, Decode, was released. We watched it with 5 other teams: hosted by #3311. This year is greatly different from the previous year with a new system for qualifying for State, our number one goal this year. We also gathered information on other teams design process and a 3D printed robot.

Season changes: Not a whole lot has been changed in terms of basic rules for this year. The number of servos was lowered to 10 but besides that the change of scoring is the biggest.

To now qualify you must win based on points. Points are gathered from: Qualification Phase Performance (Playoff Qualification), Aliance leader/Draft Order, Playoff placements, and Team judged Awards. The Inspire Award will still give you a lot of points but competing can also get you an advancement. The exact rules are in the FTC game manual, manual.

Design Process Notes: At this year of kickoff there was very little discussion on how to approach the assignment. Instead, we learned a lot form what Team 3311 does to prepare for the year. Considering that they competed well at state, we should take their process and implement as much as possible. Below are some notes that Gavin and Nick took.

Examples: Preston was able to talk with Team 3311 about the 3D printed base of our robot.

Resources: This year FTC is offering some new resources that may be of interest. First, they are advising 4 prebuilt robots that can complete the task already. We will not do this, but it will be interesting to see if other teams do. There is also a new AI bot to answer question based off the rule book, this may or may not be helpful. There will also be a simulator that programmers can test, Gavin, Adhira and Mikela will look at this to improve our automatous this year.

Future plans: We will be meeting Monday to kickoff are seasonal practices. The team is excited to get started.
