Preston had the opportunity to talk with one of the engineers at Canvas, a wind tunnel facility. There they discussed the CAD files for the FTC season drivetrain. They discussed potential issues like material strength, alignment, and issues with the printing process. While strength wasn’t a huge concern, Caleb (the engineer) had two key pieces of advice:
- Heat set inserts: A guide is available for the correct sizing and chamfering of holes to allow the inserts to be installed with minimal blobs of plastic, which has been a minor issue for us in the past
- Dowel rods: Caleb recommended that we use dowel rods to help align the printed pieces to each other before we screw them in, making assembly easier.
Overall, this was a very helpful meeting, and thanks to Caleb and Canvas for lending us a hand!
